This essay outlines a cultural analysis of a peculiar object: Real Dolls. These hyper-realistic, human-size female dolls are produced and sold mostly in Japan and the USA, but also exported in Europe and elsewhere. The particularity of these devices and the practices around them lies at the intersection between contemporary conceptions of femininity, sexuality, violence, desire, and the complex relationship between reality and the imaginary.
